This CD is an excellent compilation of Marcus Miller's solo work. A musical genius, he has excelled in R&B, jazz, and funk with various artists such as David Sanborn, Luther Vandross, Miles Davis, etc. His talents as a multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer shines brightly on this CD. This CD features songs from "The Sun Don't Lie", "Tales" and work from his other solo albums "Suddenly" and "Marcus Miller". It also sums up his own stellar solo work and with the Jamaica Boys, a R&B/funk group that features Lenny White, Mark Stevens, Dinky Bingham, and Bernard Wright. The funk is deep on "Serious", "Home", and "I Want To Be There". The latter builds up on the funk along with an African percussion sequence that is amazing. "Ethiopia" is a similar track. The ballads are plentiful with tracks such as "Nadine", "Forevermore", and "Could It Be You". There is a live song, "Run For Cover" which lets the band stretch out and features a slammin' bass solo. This song is the highlight of many on the CD. He also does an updated version of "Just What I Needed" which is a treat to listen. If you are not familiar with Marcus Miller's solo work, then I highly recommended this CD as a good start or just to add to your collection (as a fan), you will not be disappointed. ~ Amazon.com
